Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Final Poster

Posted by michaeljoejackson On March - 11 - 2010

Along with the premiere of the final trailer last week, Disney has also debuted what looks to be the final official poster for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time over on UGO today. Last July we got to see the first two magazine-like posters for Prince of Persia, which seemed a bit too stylish for the general public to appreciate. But now they’ve released a typical action-movie poster with cheesier poses from the main actors. To be honest, it’s not that impressive of a poster, it’s just kind of bland and boring. Oh and in related news, Prince of Persia will also be showing in IMAX worldwide this summer (via Collider). Check it out below!

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is directed by English director Mike Newell, of Donnie Brasco, Pushing Tin, Mona Lisa Smile, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire previously. The screenplay was co-written by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard (The Uninvited, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) and the story was developed by Jordan Mechner, one of the original creators of the video game. Disney will be bringing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to theaters everywhere starting on May 28th, 2010 this summer.

New Red Band Repo Men Trailer

Posted by michaeljoejackson On March - 10 - 2010

Last night I saw an awesome TV spot for Repo Men that only contained quick cuts of these guys collecting things and no music. You can watch that here and I was planning on posting it until this “Director’s Cut” trailer popped up on the official website. Universal just debuted this new red band trailer for Repo Men that was cut by the director.

Usually studios hire their own marketing teams to make trailers, but some directors cut their own because they feel they better represent the movie. I don’t think this trailer was as good as that TV spot I mentioned, but damn does this look good. Can’t wait to see this!

Set in the future, the story revolves around a man (Jude Law) who struggles to make the payments on a heart he purchased. He must go on the run before said ticker is repossessed by the company that owns it.

Repo Men is directed by British first-time feature filmmaker Miguel Sapochnik, of only a short from 2000 called The Dreamer previously. The film is based on Eric Garcia’s novel called The Repossession Mambo. The script was co-written by Garcia and TV writer Garrett Lerner (“Smallville”, “Boston Public”, “House”). Universal is bringing Repo Men to theaters everywhere starting on March 19th

Check out the new trailer below.

Wolverince Sequel To Start Filming Soon, Script Complete

Posted by michaeljoejackson On March - 9 - 2010

ShowBiz411 is reporting that the sequel to last year’s blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine will begin filming soon, with the script already completed. Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (X-Men, Valkyrie) has prepared a first draft of the script.

The site’s source revealed a few details pertaining to the film’s direction:
“The script is a little different than originally thought. [It's] based on a story cycle by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont. Wolverine’s adventures in martial arts will be a love story featuring a Japanese actress, I am told.
‘It’s a beautiful story,’ says a source, ‘and will be very different than the first film.’”

They went on to say that the production is slated to begin filming in January, 2011. Though Hugh Jackman is the only actor presently attached to the film, Liev Schreiber, who portrayed Logan’s brother and nemesis Victor/Sabertooth in the first X-Men spin-off, has recently expressed interest in returning. Whether his character is written into the script has yet to be revealed.
No director is currently attached to the project.

The Dark Knight Producer Making Gilligan’s Island

Posted by michaeljoejackson On March - 3 - 2010

Variety is reporting the curious news that Charles Roven, producer of The Dark Knight, and his Atlas Entertainment production company are working with Warner Bros to develop a feature length film adaptation of the classic castaway television series Gilligan’s Island, which generated solid ratings during its three seasons between 1964 and 1967 and then found something close to eternal life in syndication.

Plans are for a contempo take on the well-known premise and characters, with the studio and the Schwartzes’ blessing Copeland’s initial idea for the screenplay. Roven told Daily Variety that he’s hoping to start production as early as next year but won’t move forward on seeking a director or cast until Copeland’s script is completed.

“The characters are so good,” Roven added. “We think it’s going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day.”

The 98 episodes of “Gilligan’s Island,” starring Bob Denver as the hapless title character, centered on the wacky misadventures of seven castaways — two crew members, a millionaire couple, a professor, a movie star and a girl-next-door type — on an uncharted and uninhabited island in the Pacific.

Of course, there’s always a chance that the flick could take the path of The Brady Bunch Movie and be a sort of parody of itself with plenty of respect and homage to the original series. Surely it has to stay in the realm of comedy, and maybe spice it up with some action. Otherwise, a more serious approach would just feel too similar to ABC’s series “Lost” without all the crazy science fiction. Honestly, I’m not terribly mad about this for some reason, but we’ll have to see who directs it and who’ll take on the roles of the infamous castaways. Apparently Schwartz thinks Michael Cera is perfect for Gilligan.

First Official Trailer for After.Life

Posted by michaeljoejackson On March - 3 - 2010

Anchor Bay has just released, via Apple, the first official trailer for the upcoming thriller After.Life starring Liam Neeson, Christina Ricci and Justin Long. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think of the movie’s unique concept. There’s some creepy necrophilia style sexuality with Ricci too, which hopefully doesn’t interest anyone, but it’s still in there. If I had to make a quick comparison, this looks like a dark intense look at the life/afterlife balance.

Courtesy of NY Times: Like his previous drama Maborosi (1995), Hirokazu Kore-eda’s After Life is a brilliant meditation on death and memory. The premise of After Life is simple: over the span of a week, twenty-two souls arrive at a way station (which looks like an old junior high school) between life and death, where they are asked to choose just one memory to take into the afterlife. The new arrivals include an elderly woman, a rebellious dropout, a teenage girl, and a 70-year-old war veteran. Once they have chosen a memory, it is recreated and filmed by the staff of the way station, using all the tricks and illusions of cinema: cotton balls are used to mimic clouds, a fan is used for a summer breeze. In preparation for this project, Kore-eda interviewed 500 people from all walks of life about their memories.
