The Hobbit follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever… Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities… A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The same Travolta and Uma Thurman- the mob first lady- talk deep inside “uncomfortable silence” and fall in love secretly forever.

After killing a man inside a boxing ring, Bruce Willis (Butch in the movie) finds a taxi driver rather a model-like lady taxi driver who has fantasies about mating a murderer maybe!

Unfortunately, the price possession of Butch is his family watch. Unfortunate because the watch had gone through the anal holes of two different men and survived to reach Butch in his childhood. Christopher Walken takes us through that “very pleasant” journey of the watch and we listen to him being spellbound!

Travolta shoots an under age nigger accidentally, skull pieces and brain spread all round the car and we are made to believe such an event is funny.

Mr. Wolf- the problem solver- talks rubbish like coffee and linen most of the time and solves everything in 20 minutes flat.

~~ Yet, is Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite movies? Yes, it is! I do not doubt even a 1/9 of the 9/10 rating of the movie at imdb. Why? Because do you know what the French call quarter pound of cheese? Royale with cheese. :p

Finally the time has come if you are one like me to have become a tad disappointed in Johhny Depp’s over-doing of the Jack Sparrow. The last part- On Stranger Tides was, seriously, felt like a waste of the talent of one of the most prolific actors on earth.

But now Depp has not only agreed to play the lead as Seuss (born Theodor Geisel), author of children’s classics such as “Green Eggs and Ham,” “The Cat in the Hat,” “Horton Hears a Who!” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” In addition to being turned into a number of hit movies (“Grinch” and “Cat in the Hat”); but also has decided to produce it himself. Geisel’s books have sold more than 200 million copies worldwide.

There have also been rumors that the film will have sufficient amount of animated effects. The man Depp is about to play- Seuss began his career in the late 1920s as a magazine illustrator, then shifted to drawing ads for companies including General Electric and NBC during the Great Depression, before shifting to political cartoons during World War II and, finally, turning his focus to children’s books in the 1950s. Among his first efforts was “Horton,” as well as 1957′s “Cat in the Hat” and “Grinch.” Geisel died of throat cancer in September 1991 at the age of 87.

Depp also has agreed to do a role of a journalist in “The Rum Diary,” and a cameo in a forthcoming Martin Scorsese movie.

Disney will re release old school classics in 3D

Disney has got tremendously inspired by the success of The Lion King 3D. they have decided to re release more old school classics such as The Sleeping Beauty in 3D versions. Next is “Monsters, Inc.” on January 18, 2013. Before that, “Finding Nemo” will return for a limited engagement on September 14, 2012. To add, “The Little Mermaid” hits theaters in 3-D on September 13, 2013.

“Great stories and great characters are timeless, and at Disney we’re fortunate to have a treasure trove of both,” said President of Walt Disney Studios Alan Bergman in a statement. “We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3-D – and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”

Animation lovers can rejoice.

In Blow

Blow is probably the best of all drug mafia movies. Yes, it is probably better than Scarface, American Gangster, and any other. What touches you most about Blow that it is a true story and almost scene by scene adopted. Blow has the thrills of “oh! Could this really had happened” and also emotion of “life is so cruel”. But what makes Blow apart from all other classics from the same genre is the character George Jung played by Johnny Depp. And kudos to Depp for delivering one of the best performances ever seen on silver screen.

In the very start of his life Jung realizes the value of money and its probable mastery over all other things. The character is hip and very natural. Just like Captain Jack Sparrow, Depp must had lived this character while he was doing it. Because he was so God damn natural. He walked like George Jung, smiled like him, talked like him, thought like him, and also, kept silent like him.

The beauty of George Jung’s characterization in the film is that you want to so be the drug dealer with endless money and be kool like him and at the same time, you so do not want to be the father who longs for his daughter to visit him in jail once, and who breaks his promise to his daughter and cites its as “the only guilt” of his life. Boston George’s character had all the shades. His first love dies at the first hour of the movie and once his mother betrays him and delivers him to the law. All the allies he ever had cheat him one after another. The less said about his wife played by Penelope Cruz the better. But not to forget that once he steals the fiancé of a dreaded drug dealer and marries her and on another instance he had so much money that the toilets of the apartment were also filled with $100 bills and counting.

Towards the ending of the film, George became only a father and nothing else. He continues to be the kool person he once was from outside but in the inside- he was only a father left. His everyday and every move evolved around his daughter. Completely broke, George tries one last scheme to have the money to run away with his daughter, but alas! The man who had never been caught in the immigrations and customs of many airports before, could not pull the last action off and fell endangered of never being able to see his daughter again.

It is true that towards the end, George or Depp melts your eyelids and maybe some of you will not be able to forgive the crimes he committed in earlier life. But folks, one thing is for sure: George Jung in Johnny Depp is so Gawd Damn Kool !

And to make situations worse, they both are romantic comedies. Now, somehow or the other, romantic comedies are never satisfying enough for Hollywood.

The mega releases of the year- Pirates of The Carribean- On Stranger Tides, the 5th franchisee of The Fast and The Furious series- Fast 5, Transformers: dark of The Moon have all been disappointing.

Kungfu Panda 2  and The Hangover 2 were average while the first parts were clearly better.

The last out and out good movie was The Social Network. And, for an amazing one you have to go back as long as Inception.

So, January to October 2011, it has been a very disappointing year man !

Just like the character played by Daniel Craig in Layer Cake, the movie itself at first does not seem to be much. But it gets better. Yeah, just like Layer Cake.

The first scene is magnificent itself. Daniel takes the audience through his brilliant description about the in and out of the drug business, if you can call it a business that is. In his vision, a super market of drug products are seen with prestigious brands like fcuk. And Daniel ensures the audience, “one day, this all be legal.”

Daniel Craig plays one of the most intelligent criminals of the world. In his eyes, he was  just a businessman though (sorry to say, in my eyes too). His character is one of the koolest characters ever played in a motion picture. Like he repeatedly said in the film, “Have a plan and stick to it.”

What places Layer Cake among the bests is its pace. there is hardly any dull minute in the movie. The screenplay is intelligent like the leading character. This is a movie of the drug corporate world with the flavor of a gangster classic.

You almost can not feel time passing by in the movie. All the events are interesting and covers many communities and drug cultures around Europe.  The glamour value of the movie is also very high. And it does not seek for sex for glamour. The cult moments are glamorous themselves.

The ending and majorly the sub plots are a tad disappointing but the movie remains a must watch from the neglected arena.

Love its or hide it, everybody loves playboy magazine.   And by that we do not mean guys only. The first article takes you back in to vintage playboy issues, pictures to the modern day warfare celebrities like Rihanna and Amber Heard posing as bunnies of playboy. A must read for 2011 !

Do you want to curse yourself after going to hell as a movie lover? Do you want to tell God that you are rotting in hell for watching movies and yet you did not watch this “almost classic” of Al Pacino? Then take out some mere coins from your wallet and buy a DVD of Frankie and Johnny.Why it is a classic? Just because you have not watched a love story like this. You can never imagine two mega figures like Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer playing the roles of two extremely poor persons and discovering love and romance in their own disbelieving ways. Hence, you have to watch this one. The flick has an uncanny knack of making you believe in love when you lose it.

The Longest Yard

The father of a guy movie. There are very few movies made in the sports genre which offer this much fun. Adam Sandler is phenomenal in the film and so are the rest of the big line of cast from the wrestling world including Goldberg, Steve Austin, The Great Khali, and other ensemble cast fromHollywoodand the music world. Adam plays the role of a American football player who is suspended for fixing matches and have a bitch wife. He is locked in a dreaded prison for driving drunk and tearing his wife’s car in to pieces. It was a Bentley :p He was asked to guide the jail guards’ team for the upcoming season. He builds a team of prisoners to play the guards. And that is how things get very ugly. All comes down to a match between the guards and the prisoners. The soundtrack of the movie is a joy for ears. A must watch for all guys and girls also on a blue day to bright your day up.

I did not have much knowledge about the X-Men books, movies, or its characters except for the fact that I had seen Hugh Jackman as the pivotal character on posters and DVD covers. Yes, another thing, the characters I saw had huge sideboards. :p

Mashrur asked me if I am aware of Magneto and his influence over comics and book readers. The answer was obviously no. I had no clue that the series had characters like Dr. X and his team. Mashrur knew I am a huge fan of The Joker from the Batman comics. He told me that on a public voting Magneto had beaten The Joker as the best villain of all time. First, I thought the perception and taste of comic readers would easily be different with the interpretation of the world, the society, batman, and The Joker of Christopher Nolan (the maker of batman Begins and The Dark Knight- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0634240/). But there was much more to see that I could not assume at that time.

The story and characterization of magneto starts at the childhood. He was Polish and his native was occupied the Germans at World War II. At a time when he and his mother were being separated by the ruthless Germans, magneto showed his glimpse of being different. Greedy, and being another one of the mutation family, Shaw (http://marvel.com/universe/Shaw,_Sebastian) kills his mother and experiments on young Erik on the quest of his dream of ruling the world. Devastated and changed by his mother’s death, Erik is left with two things only: irreparable heartache and vengeance.

In the movie X-men First Class (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1270798/), Erik grows up after this and seeks revenge. He becomes friends with soon to be professor X who teaches him to control and maximize his power of magnetically controlling all metallic objects. Previously, it was unleashed that his anger could empower him of doing so. Professor tells him the maximization of power would lie somewhere between wrath and love in mind.

These are part of synopsis of the storyline but the question remains do I like Magneto? Can I give any place near Christopher Nolan’s The Joker? I do not know the second answer but I surely liked Magneto. I like the mammoth build up of his characterization and the agony aback. We have to understand that X-men First Class is not a competition for The Dark Knight as a motion picture.

But I liked Magneto. I can relate to such emotion easily and I feel alike. My most favorite line of him from the movie is when Professor X tells him upon reading his mind that killing Shaw would not give Magneto peace. He replies, “Peace was never an option.”
