A Road Trip To See ‘Star Wars’? May The Force Be With You, ‘Fanboys’

Obi-Wan Kenobi may have braved Imperial bounty hunters to reach Alderan, and Luke Skywalker faced down a whole galaxy to find a teacher in the swamps of Dagobah, but neither “Star Wars” hero has anything on the “Fanboys” they inspired.
“['Fanboys' is about] four friends from Ohio in 1998 [one of whom] is terminally ill with cancer and will die before ‘Episode I — The Phantom Menace’ finally comes out,” actor Jay Baruchel said of the upcoming flick. “We decide we’re going to take a road trip from Ohio to California to break into Skywalker Ranch and watch ‘Episode I’ before it hits the screens.”
Call it the great “Star Wars” trek of 2007. Directed by Kyle Newman (“The Hollow”), “Fanboys” has as many surprises — and familiar faces — as the Mos Eisley cantina.
“We had a bunch of amazing cameos,” co-star Kristen Bell, who wears “a really short, dark wig as the only fan girl,” gushed. “Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and William Shatner.”
Captain Kirk? Chalk that one up to the great ” ‘Star Trek’ wars,” joked Baruchel. “There’s a big-ass battle between all the Trekkies and all the fanboys,” Baruchel explained, smiling as he described the weapons used. “[We fight with] lirpa, which is the Vulcan weapon with the sickle on the top and mound on the bottom.”
Even knowing there are a lot of serious “Star Wars” fans out there, Bell was astonished at the turnout of real-life fanboys, who helped make the prop room look like a storage closet at Jabba the Hutt’s palace. “All these fans drove in from, I mean, hundreds of miles away, to bring their ‘Star Wars’ equipment featured in the movie,” she said amazed.
So it’s a movie by fanboys, for fanboys? Not according to Baruchel, who thinks the film’s audience can be wider than just “Star Wars” enthusiasts.
“It clearly will appeal to all of my people, all the nerd posse,” the “Million Dollar Baby” actor said. He added: “But it’s also just a damn funny movie, and one of those great road-trip comedies. I guess [it's for] people who want to go sit down for an hour and a half and laugh their ass off.”
Warner Bros debuted the full-length theatrical trailer for Chris Nolan’s Inception in theaters in front of Iron Man 2 a few days back. There aren’t many words to describe how incredibly epic and amazing this looks, but beautiful and stunning and mesmerizing are a few that fit best. Watching this trailer, you will agree that Inception is the most anticipated movie this summer. This just looks so phenomenal.

Inception is both written and directed by acclaimed Oscar nominated British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, of Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight. Nolan previously co-wrote the scripts for Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight with his brother Jonathan Nolan. Warner Bros is bringing Inception to theaters starting on July 16th this summer.
