Well folks, we’ve just received news that the Spider-Man franchise is going to be around for a long long time to come. While Tobey McGuire, Kirsten Dunst and director Sam Raimi all confirmed to return for Spider-Man 4, Sony has already brought James Vanderbilt of The Losers on board to write the story for Spider-Man 5 and 6! We don’t know what kind of story he will write and which characters will be in them. We don’t even know if McGuire or Dunst or even Raimi will return for a fifth and sixth movie. Valderbilt is the guy who wrote the first draft of Spider-Man 4, before his disagreement with Raimi forced Sony to bring David Lindsay-Abaire to re-write the script, and then Gary Ross re-wrote Lindsay-Abaire’s re-write. Many of Vandderbilt’s ideas, however, have been retained and will be seen in the next movie to be released in 2011.
The interesting news is that if the original director and cast decide not to return for more sequels, Spidey 5 will be the first film of a rebooted franchise.
