Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Gets A Director
Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha director and Oscar winner Rob Marshall has been confirmed to replace Gore Verbinski and take the helm of Pirates of the Caribbean 4. A reader at AICN reports the following at a screening of Marsall’s film Nine:
I just saw the DGA screening of Rob Marshall’s latest movie, NINE tonight and stayed for the Q & A after, so I thought I’d write in to share my thoughts. First, let me just get the HUGE scoop out of the way: when asked about his next project (by Nora Ephron, who hosted the Q&A), he replied ‘y’know, it’s something that I was offered and never in the world thought I would do but then I was like ‘why not?’… I’m doing ‘Pirates of the Caribbean….”’ That’s right– Rob Marshall is directing the next installment of the ‘Pirates’ franchise. The only additional thing he mentioned about it was that he had a wonderful meeting with Johnny a little while ago and that they’re both excited to work together.
All we can do now is wait for Disney to make the official confirmation, and that should come soon if they’re going to begin production in 2010 as originally planned.
Natalie Portman will be playing the role of Jane Foster, the love interest of the title character in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. Her casting has officially been confirmed by Marvel yesterday (July 13). The film will co-star Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as the villain Loki. The synopsis of the film from FirstShowing.net:
This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
